In a landmark move for international football, FIFA has announced that the winning team of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be awarded custom championship rings, in addition to the iconic FIFA World Cup Trophy and gold medals. This marks the first time in FIFA history that such personalized rings will be presented to a champion squad.
The reigning World Cup champions, Argentina, are set to face 2024 UEFA European Championship winners Spain in the final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on June 19 (June 20 in Taiwan time).
According to NBC 4 New York, championship rings are a long-standing tradition in major U.S. professional sports leagues, symbolizing individual achievement and team legacy. FIFA is now adopting this tradition for the first time in its flagship tournament.
FIFA announced today that the winning team’s captain and head coach will each receive a temporary ring immediately after the final match. Subsequently, 30 custom-designed championship rings will be crafted in line with U.S. professional sports traditions and officially presented to the players and key staff members of the winning team.
One side of the ring will feature an engraving of the FIFA World Cup Trophy, while the other side will be customized to reflect the identity and national symbols of the winning country.
A total of 2,026 rings will be produced. After 30 are allocated to the champion team, the remaining 1,996 will be released as official FIFA-licensed merchandise, available for purchase by fans worldwide. The price has not yet been announced.
This initiative represents a significant step in enhancing the personal legacy of players and deepening global fan engagement with the FIFA World Cup brand. It also signals FIFA’s ongoing efforts to blend international football traditions with popular sports culture from North America.
