(Central News Agency, Madrid, 17th -综合 foreign media report) The Spanish government announced today that Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez will attend the 2026 World Cup final to watch Spain face defending champions Argentina.
According to Agence France-Presse, Sanchez has long been openly critical of U.S. President Donald Trump, who also plans to attend the championship match on the 19th in New Jersey. Spain's cabinet told AFP that Sanchez will subsequently make an official visit to Algeria.
The Spanish Royal Family announced that King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia, and their two daughters will also attend the final.
Argentine President Javier Milei, however, has a personal taboo against attending matches and will watch the final from the presidential residence.
Sanchez, leader of the Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE), has long had tense relations with Trump. He has previously refused to allow U.S. military forces to use Spanish bases for military action against Iran and has condemned U.S. military efforts to overthrow Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
