(Central News Agency, Taipei, July 17) At 3:00 a.m. on July 20 (Monday), the 2026 USA-Canada-Mexico World Cup final will reach its climax. While most Chinese football fans are worried about being late for work on Monday, a bank has introduced a benefit allowing employees to delay their start time, sparking envy among netizens.
According to Chinese media outlet 21st Century Business Herald, multiple employees shared on social media a notice from Tailong Bank titled 'Delayed Work Start': 'To further enhance employee well-being and allow Tailong fans to enjoy this football spectacle without missing a moment, while ensuring they can return to work in better spirits, after deliberation by headquarters, all staff except those required to maintain normal business operations may start work at 10:30 a.m. on July 20 (Monday).'
The comment sections on social platforms are filled with envious remarks from mainland netizens. The report emphasizes that Tailong Bank's initiative is not a temporary publicity stunt to ride the World Cup wave, but a tradition maintained for years. As early as the 2018 Russia World Cup final, the bank issued a similar notice allowing delayed arrival.
The report notes that during major national sports events like the World Cup, Chinese banks ramp up their sports marketing efforts. Issuing themed credit cards, offering cashback on spending, selling event-related precious metals, and sponsoring sports events have become common strategies for banks to engage with such occasions.
However, it is rare for a bank to allow employees to delay their arrival and enjoy the match, especially during a period when banking staff are typically extremely busy. (Edited by Zhu Jianling / Yang Shengru) 1150717
