The Kuomintang (KMT) Legislative Caucus today launched a food safety information website developed by a team led by legislator Ge Ru-jun. The site compiles daily information released by various government departments, enabling the public to check whether food products are affected by safety issues. The caucus emphasized that the website was specially created to empower citizens, stating, 'What the government fails to do, the KMT will do.'
The KMT caucus held a press conference today to announce the launch of the 'Tracing the Oil Trail' website. Conceived by the KMT caucus and built by Ge Ru-jun's office, the website integrates data on the distribution of problematic oil products, affected items, inspection results, and progress on product recalls and removals from shelves.
Ge Ru-jun explained that the website reveals the journey of oil from factory to dining table, including raw material flows, final products, detection of超标 (excessive contamination), and recall and removal processes. It also features a 'Toxic Oil Flow Map' showing which brands and companies received contaminated oil and how their products were affected.
Ge warned the public not to rely solely on product names, as identical names with different batch numbers or expiration dates may yield entirely different results. Consumers must verify batch numbers, expiration dates, and manufacturers. For those seeking refunds, the website provides return deadlines, required documentation, customer service numbers, and official announcements.
Lin Pei-xiang, Secretary-General of the KMT caucus, said the 'Tracing the Oil Trail' website consolidates currently available information on problematic products and affected brands, aiming to help the public quickly grasp key details. The site will be continuously updated as new information becomes public, assisting users in tracking the latest developments.
Lin noted that much information has yet to surface and invited the public to submit relevant data, including logistics trails, product details, first-hand clues, or knowledge of undisclosed information, to the KMT.
Hsu Yu-chen, Chief Deputy Secretary-General of the KMT caucus, reiterated that the 'Tracing the Oil Trail' website was created for public self-protection, emphasizing, 'What the government fails to do, the KMT will do.' She demanded that Premier Cho Jung-tai stop evading responsibility and immediately apologize, and urged President Lai Qing-te to stop hiding behind Cho and immediately convene a national food safety summit to propose a national-level food safety reform plan. She insisted that Cho must resign to take responsibility for the major food safety governance failure.
In a separate press release, KMT Communications Director Chen Yi-xin criticized the Executive Yuan's report as offering 'no truth, no apology, no resignation,' accusing it of merely defending the government and absolving officials. He pointed out that President Lai, though remaining low-profile, is the one who should truly explain and apologize to the public.
Chen emphasized that President Lai must immediately apologize to the nation, demonstrate the resolve of 'cutting off a limb to survive,' and remove negligent officials. Otherwise, he warned, the people will deliver the harshest judgment at the ballot box against the arrogant and negligent ruling party. (Edited by Su Long-qi, Huang Guo-lun) 1150716
