(Central News Agency, Wellington, 16 – compiled international reports) Sam Neill, the male lead in 'Jurassic Park,' passed away recently in Australia. His agent confirmed today that the 78-year-old New Zealand actor died of pneumonia, and the family will hold a private memorial service at his farm in New Zealand.
According to reports from AFP and AP, the family announced Neill's passing on the 13th but did not disclose the cause of death, only stating that Neill, who had previously battled cancer, had no cancer cells in his body at the time of death.
Due to widespread media speculation about Neill's cause of death, Philip Grenz, Neill's long-time agent, issued a statement today to Radio New Zealand, clarifying details for fans after consulting with the family.
Grenz stated that Neill died of pneumonia and emphasized: 'Before falling ill, Sam had just shown great courage by overcoming lymphoma through a new CAR-T (chimeric antigen receptor T-cell) immunotherapy.'
In 2023, Neill publicly revealed he was diagnosed with the rare 'angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma' and announced in April this year that he had successfully defeated cancer, with no cancer cells remaining in his body.
The agent said the family will hold a private, non-public memorial service in New Zealand.
He added: 'Sam was extremely private and disliked public attention. The family will hold a memorial for him at his New Zealand farm, with the exact date not yet finalized.'
Grenz also noted that Neill had participated in the filming of four projects over the past year, and these final works are expected to be released陆续 in the coming months.
In addition to 'Jurassic Park,' Neill's notable film and television works include 'Peaky Blinders,' 'The Piano,' and 'The Hunt for Red October.' (Translation: Tsai Chia-min) 1150716
