U.S.-Iran War Key News

(Taipei, Washington, 14th - CNA Compilation) U.S. President Donald Trump announced yesterday that he would impose a 20% fee on all cargo passing through the Strait of Hormuz, but today reversed that decision, opting instead to pursue trade agreements with Gulf allies.

According to AFP, Trump posted on his social media platform 'Truth Social': 'I have decided to replace the 20% 'U.S. compensation fee' with trade and investment agreements that Gulf countries will make with the United States.'

Trump stated that productive talks with Middle Eastern leaders led him to abandon the fee proposal.

Yesterday, Trump declared that the U.S. would become the guardian of the Strait of Hormuz, aggressively confront Iran, potentially take direct control of the strait, and charge a 20% security compensation fee on all passing cargo. The U.S. military also announced it would resume a naval blockade against Iran starting today.

Today, Trump clarified that the 'full blockade' would continue, but only against ships traveling to or from Iranian ports or carrying goods linked to Iran.

Trump's renewed blockade pledge prompted Iran to retaliate by attacking targets in multiple regional countries. In response, the U.S. launched a new wave of airstrikes against Iran today.

The U.S. military reported conducting strikes on multiple targets inside Iran, including the port cities of Bushehr and Bandar Abbas, aiming to 'degrade Iran's ability to attack commercial shipping.'

Local officials reported that U.S. forces struck four locations in Bushehr, where Iran's only civilian nuclear power plant is located. U.S. forces also attacked areas near the Iranian border with Iraq and Kuwait.

Reuters reported that Iran launched ballistic missiles at a U.S. military base in Jordan, with Jordan confirming it intercepted four missiles.

Bahrain, which hosts a U.S. naval base, stated it successfully intercepted an Iranian aerial assault, with explosions heard in the capital, Manama.

According to the United Arab Emirates, Iran attacked two vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in the death of one crew member.

Crisis response firm MTI Network reported that a Norwegian oil tanker was hit by an explosion from an unknown device early this morning off the coast of Oman.

Based on Iranian media and official reports compiled by AFP, U.S. airstrikes resumed last week have killed at least 28 people in Iran. (Translation: Yang Chao-Yen) 1150715
