(Central News Agency, Reporter Lin Chia-lien, Kaohsiung, July 4) The Kuomintang's youth political training event, "Democratic School," was held in Kaohsiung for the first time today. Ko Chih-en, the Kuomintang's candidate for Kaohsiung mayor, interacted with young participants, encouraging those aspiring to enter politics to bravely take the first step, saying, "You can lose, but you cannot be afraid."
The Kuomintang stated that Legislator Lo Chih-chiang launched the "Democratic School" in Taipei in March 2023, and it has now entered its 8th session. In her speech, Ko Chih-en affirmed Lo Chih-chiang's long-term efforts in youth development. Many participants have since become political aides, campaign staff, or elected representatives, demonstrating the results of youth empowerment.
Speaking about her political journey, Ko Chih-en said she has experienced defeat before but has always believed that conviction and resilience are most important in public service. One can accept failure when facing setbacks, but should not retreat out of fear. Only by persistently adhering to one's ideals can one go far in the political path.
Ko Chih-en stated that passion, creativity, and initiative are most important in participating in public affairs, and political workers should not be limited to a single background. She mentioned that she did not develop her career solely in politics but entered it after experiencing different stages of life, which allows her to better understand the needs of a diverse society.
Ko Chih-en also encouraged young people to actively participate in public affairs. She said that young people do not necessarily have to join a political party, but they should care about social issues and engage in policy promotion. Whether serving as an aide, advocate, or driving reform, they have the opportunity to become an important force for social change.
She also drew on her experience running for Kaohsiung mayor to encourage participants, saying that politicians must bravely take on challenges. "A warrior has no right to choose the battlefield." Since choosing to get involved, one should give their all. She hopes more young people will join public affairs to jointly cultivate the next generation of political talent for Kaohsiung and Taiwan.
