(CNA Reporter Chen Chih-chung Taipei, July 4) An inter-grade joint exhibition by the Department of Architecture at National Taipei University of Technology (NTUT) will be on display until July 7. The curatorial concept, "Naming Architecture with the Body," views architecture as an organic entity, guiding viewers to re-understand the relationship between architecture and people starting from their own bodily sensations.
NTUT released a press release today stating that the inter-grade joint exhibition, Mesentery, views architecture as an organic entity with skin, bones, vocal cords, intestines, and openings. Architecture is no longer just a static object to be observed, but a living space that can breathe, bear, connect, and engage in flow and dialogue with the people within it.
For example, "Vocal folds" generate sound through vibration, metaphorically representing the powerlessness architecture students feel when they struggle to fully convey their thoughts to family or non-professionals when explaining their designs. "Pupil" adjusts light like an aperture, reflecting how students see themselves through the eyes of others when facing anxiety, peer comparison, and self-expectations.
Huang Yi-ting, Director of the NTUT Arts and Culture Center, stated that the exhibition breaks away from the conventional display of flat viewing, allowing the audience to walk directly among the exhibits, feel the "breathing" of the space up close, and perceive the spatial tension formed by structure, scale, and circulation from different angles. The audience is not just an observer of the works but also becomes a part of the exhibition space and the design narrative. (Editor: Chang Ming-kun) 1150704
