(CNA) - PharmaEssentia announced today that its new drug, Ropeg, has been approved by Health Canada for the treatment of polycythemia vera (PV) and is expected to be officially launched in Canada within weeks.

PharmaEssentia stated that Ropeg received US approval for PV drugs in 2021, and this latest approval from Canada will further complete its layout in the North American PV market.

PharmaEssentia explained that PV is a type of myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) that requires long-term treatment and care. Market research estimates that there are approximately 17,000 PV patients in Canada. Current clinical treatment options include phlebotomy, hydroxyurea (HU) capsules, interferon, and JAK2 inhibitors. PharmaEssentia's new drug, Ropeg, has now officially received Canadian PV drug approval.

PharmaEssentia CEO Lin Kuo-chung stated that Canada is an important global pharmaceutical market. The approval of the PV drug certificate for Ropeg by Health Canada will help to further complete Ropeg's global commercialization landscape. (Editor: Yang Kai-hsiang) 1150703
