(CNA Taipei, July 3) Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Danish Foreign Minister Lars Rasmussen in Copenhagen on July 2. Before the meeting, Rasmussen stated in an interview that China's support for Russia's war in Ukraine has damaged its reputation in Europe and affected China's interests, and that the EU is already discussing sanctions against China. According to Chinese sources, Wang Yi stated during their meeting that China-EU relations are partnerships, not rivals.

Wang Yi is visiting Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Norway from July 2 to 8. This is Wang Yi's second visit to Europe this year and the first time a Chinese foreign minister has revisited Denmark in 15 years.

Rasmussen held a small press conference before Wang Yi's arrival. He stated that China's support for Russia's war in Ukraine has damaged its reputation in Europe and affected China's interests, and that the EU is already discussing sanctions against China. He added that it is necessary for Wang Yi to continuously hear this message during his trip to Northern Europe.

According to information from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi stated during his meeting with Rasmussen that China and the EU are partners, not rivals. Cooperation should be the fundamental basis and main theme of China-EU relations, and he hopes Denmark will play a constructive role in promoting the healthy and stable development of EU-China relations.

In the information released by the Chinese side, Rasmussen stated that bilateral relations are developing strongly, with trade and green development being highlights of cooperation. Denmark looks forward to maintaining exchanges at all levels with China and promoting cooperation in areas such as economy and trade.

Wang Yi said that Denmark was the first Nordic country to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership with China. The two countries' relations are currently developing in a healthy and stable manner. China is Denmark's largest trading partner in Asia. China is willing to further expand trade and investment cooperation with Denmark, initiate discussions on a new version of the green joint working plan, and, guided by green cooperation, deepen cooperation in fields such as scientific research and innovation, green shipping, and health and medical care. He also expressed a desire to expand exchanges in education, culture, tourism, youth, and sports, enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of the two countries, and add new contemporary connotations to the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Denmark.

He expressed hope that Danish enterprises will continue to invest in China and that Denmark will provide an open, fair, and predictable business environment for Chinese enterprises investing there.

Wang Yi stated that the current international situation is full of chaos, and both sides should strengthen multilateral communication and coordination, promote the construction of a more just and reasonable global governance system, oppose all unilateral and bullying practices, and not allow the international community to regress to the law of the jungle.
