Cooking Oil Carcinogen Levels Exceeded; Lian Hwa Recalls 2 Frozen Rice Balls

(CNA, Taipei, July 3) Regarding the incident where a supplier's cooking oil was found to be non-compliant with regulations, Lian Hwa Foods announced today that it immediately launched an internal investigation. The only own-brand products affected by this batch of oil are "Hoka Seared Mentaiko Salmon Rice Ball" and "Hoka Premium Classic Rice Ball" frozen products, which have been taken off shelves, suspended from sale, and recalled.

Chung Lien Oil Company recently voluntarily reported that its soybean salad oil exceeded the legal limit for "Benzo[a]pyrene" (BaP). Lian Hwa Foods stated that there are currently 2 own-brand products still on sale and affected by this batch of oil: "Hoka Seared Mentaiko Salmon Rice Ball" and "Hoka Premium Classic Rice Ball" frozen products. The company immediately notified all sales channels to remove the specified batch of products from shelves, suspend sales, and simultaneously initiated a recall mechanism to protect consumer rights.

Lian Hwa Foods explained that it has long cooperated with legal and qualified suppliers for raw material procurement, and all related raw materials undergo acceptance and quality management in accordance with regulations. Regarding the incident where the upstream supplier's raw materials were found to be non-compliant with regulations, the company will continue to cooperate with the competent authorities on related matters and proceed with subsequent handling with a prudent and responsible attitude.

Lian Hwa Foods emphasized that food safety has always been its most important core principle. In the future, it will continue to strengthen its raw material acceptance and supply chain management mechanisms to safeguard consumer rights and food safety.
