(Central News Agency, reporter Lin Chang-shun, Taipei, July 3) Defendant Huang and 9 others are suspected of driving under the influence of drugs between June 30 and July 2. The Shilin District Prosecutors' Office successively applied to the court for preventive detention for Defendant Huang and the other 9 individuals, and the Shilin District Court approved the detention for all of them.

The Shilin District Prosecutors' Office pointed out that Defendant Huang and the other 9 individuals, on June 30, July 1, and July 2 of this year, drove private cars, rode heavy motorcycles, or operated electric two-wheeled vehicles in Taipei City and New Taipei City. They were discovered due to traffic accidents or police stops. After rapid screening with a drug saliva test, the results all showed a positive reaction for amphetamines and other drugs. They were arrested on the spot according to law and sent to the Shilin District Prosecutors' Office for investigation.

After questioning, the prosecutor believed that Defendant Huang and the other 9 individuals were suspected of committing the crime of driving a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs as stipulated in the Criminal Code. The suspicion of crime was significant, and there was a risk of repeated offenses. Preventive detention was applied for to the court for all of them, and all were approved for detention by the court.

The Shilin District Prosecutors' Office emphasized that it will continue to implement the "zero tolerance for drug driving" policy in accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Justice and the Taiwan High Prosecutors' Office. Drug driving cases will be strictly investigated and promptly handled according to law. Preventive detention will be actively sought based on the circumstances of each case to prevent recidivism, protect the safety of road users, and maintain road traffic order, demonstrating a firm determination for strict law enforcement and safeguarding public safety.
