(Central News Agency, Reporter Zhao Liyan, Taichung, July 3) A man in his 30s recently visited the urology department. The doctor was shocked by the examination: his genitals, lower abdomen, and even inner thighs were covered in genital warts, the largest measuring 1 cm. After arranging for excision and electrocautery, 74 warts were removed by excision and 29 by electrocautery. The 103 genital warts left the doctor nearly overwhelmed.

Lee General Hospital released a press release today. Dr. Huang Pin-rui, attending physician in the urology department, stated that the patient reported severe itching in his genital area for up to two years. When asked why he didn't seek treatment sooner, the patient revealed he was unwilling. He was eventually brought to the hospital by his girlfriend, where it was discovered that his foreskin, groin, scrotum, and inner thighs were all covered in genital warts, resembling a "vegetable garden."

Dr. Huang explained that the man had no other medical history. Initially, he ignored the itching and bought medication from a pharmacy to apply, but the warts did not decrease and instead multiplied. The itching became unbearable, so he squeezed the warts, causing the virus to spread, and they also appeared on his inner thighs. Furthermore, the patient works on a construction site, where prolonged sweating, humidity, and heat, combined with friction from his pants, caused the number of warts to increase.

Dr. Huang pointed out that he used excision and electrocautery to treat the warts, describing the quantity as so large that he "almost collapsed." In total, there were 103 genital warts. He revealed that he repeatedly hinted and explicitly suggested to the patient and his girlfriend that she should also undergo further examination, but the girlfriend has not yet responded, and it is unknown if she has received treatment.

Dr. Huang conducted other sexually transmitted infection screenings for the patient, including HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, human papillomavirus, and genital herpes. Fortunately, he was not infected with HIV, but his herpes viral load was four times the normal value. He was subsequently given medication and is being continuously monitored.

Dr. Huang reminded that the three months following treatment for genital warts are the peak period for recurrence, with a recurrence rate of 30%. Continuous follow-up is essential. If suspected granulation tissue is found, do not buy medication from a pharmacy to apply, and certainly do not squeeze or cut them. All worn underwear should be discarded and replaced with new ones. The partner should also be examined. It is recommended to get the HPV vaccine to prevent reinfection with other viruses. Most importantly, one must have correct and safe sexual health concepts.
