Liu Kwang-heng/Hsu Yin-hui in good form, advance to Canada Open mixed doubles quarterfinals with straight-set win

Taipei, July 3 (CNA) Mixed doubles pair Liu Kwang-heng and Hsu Yin-hui defeated American duo Chen Tzu-yi and Francesca Corbett 21-12, 21-14 in the round of 16 at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Super 300 Canada Open on Wednesday, advancing to the quarterfinals. Their respective men's and women's doubles pairs also progressed.

Liu Kwang-heng and Hsu Yin-hui, ranked 76th in the BWF mixed doubles standings, won their first Super 300 U.S. Open title last week after four matches as a pair. Continuing their campaign in Canada this week, they faced the 48th-ranked American pair Chen Tzu-yi and Francesca Corbett in the round of 16, marking their first encounter.

After an initial few minutes of feeling each other out in the first game, the Taiwanese pair pulled ahead from a 4-4 tie with an 11-1 run, decisively taking the first game with a significant point difference.

In the second game, the Taiwanese pair committed too many unforced errors early on, trailing 8-13 at one point in the middle of the game. Fortunately, they adjusted quickly. Hsu Yin-hui's delicate net shot and Liu Kwang-heng's powerful smashes from the back court initiated a 13-1 comeback, securing the second game and the match victory.

Liu Kwang-heng told CNA that they were indeed a bit lost at the start of the second game, both playing a bit too eagerly. They reminded each other and gradually found their rhythm, successfully suppressing the opponents' attacks, and were happy to advance smoothly.

In addition, Liu Kwang-heng's men's doubles partner, Chen Cheng-kuan, who started from the qualifying rounds at the Canada Open, defeated fellow Taiwanese pair Lai Po-yu and Tsai Fu-cheng 21-8, 9-21, 21-14 in the round of 16, hard-fought to reach the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Hsu Yin-hui, ranked 12th in the world, and her women's doubles partner Lin Tzu-yun faced English pair Sian Kelly and Lizzie Tolman in the round of 16.
