Wei Wang Recalls 8 Noodle Products Due to Contaminated Cooking Oil

(Central News Agency, Yunlin County, July 3) Contaminated cooking oil from Chung-Lien Oil Corporation's "Soybean Salad Oil" has been found to exceed the legal limit for the carcinogen benzopyrene. Wei Wang Company's Dapi plant in Yunlin used the problematic oil to produce noodle soup packets for eight types of instant noodles, affecting over 25,000 cases. The company has initiated a recall and return mechanism today.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the Ministry of Health and Welfare received a report on July 1 from Chung-Lien Oil Corporation, stating that a batch of soybean salad oil, approximately 1,300 metric tons, supplied to Fwusow Industry Co., Ltd., Fwumo Oil Corporation, and Tai Shan Enterprise Co., Ltd., was found to have self-detected levels of the carcinogen "benzopyrene" exceeding the regulatory limit. This led to the recall of 18 products across 30 batches.

Yunlin County Health Bureau Director Tseng Chun-mei told CNA that after the Health Bureau inspected Wei Wang Company's plant today, the company immediately issued a statement. They are comprehensively investigating products and batch numbers that used the problematic raw material, have ceased using all soybean oil products from Fwumo, and have temporarily suspended shipments of related semi-finished and finished products.

Wei Wang Company estimates that a total of 25,160 cases of the eight types of instant noodles were produced. The company's distribution center still holds 5,258 cases, while the rest have been sent to various sales channels for recall.

Wei Wang Company stated that the affected instant noodles include: Original Beef Noodle Soup (bagged), Braised Beef Noodle Soup (bagged, cup), Thirteen Spices Mala Dry Noodles (bagged, cup), Smoked Vegetarian Chicken Noodle Soup (tub), Jin Wei Wang Braised Beef Noodles (cup), Vegetarian Noodles (bagged), Spicy Mala Hot Pot Noodles (bagged), and Spicy Seafood Hot Pot Noodles (bagged).

Wei Wang Company announced that it has initiated a recall and return mechanism. Consumers who have purchased the affected products can return them to the original point of purchase or retailer. For any inquiries, please call the service hotline at 0800-221121.

Tseng Chun-mei said that the Health Bureau is continuing to investigate sales channels, retailers, restaurants, and food manufacturers to ensure that businesses immediately stop using, remove from shelves, and cooperate with the recall of problematic products to protect consumer rights.
