(CNA Taipei, July 2nd) At the Wimbledon Championships held in the United Kingdom, Taiwanese star "Queen of Versatility" Hsieh Su-wei and her partner Wang Xinyu defeated a local pair in straight sets in the first round of the women's doubles today, successfully advancing to the next round. Hsieh Su-wei will be seeking her 5th Wimbledon title.
Hsieh Su-wei, who has won the Wimbledon women's doubles title four times previously, is partnering with 24-year-old Chinese player Wang Xinyu again this year. In the first round, the pair challenged the wildcard local combination of Alicia Dudeney and Mingge Xu. Although they did not have an advantage in serves, the cross-strait duo relied on their experience to win, getting off to a good start at this year's Wimbledon.
After the start of the first set, both sides engaged in a "battle of breaks." Fortunately, Hsieh Su-wei and Wang Xinyu not only withstood the pressure but also successfully held their serves, taking the lead 6-3. In addition, the cross-strait duo continued to show dominance in the second set, breaking their opponents twice to lay the foundation for victory. Even after saving one match point, Hsieh Su-wei and Wang Xinyu secured their ticket to the next round with a 6-4 win.
In other news, Liang En-shuo, the "Taiwanese Pocket Rocket," and her Japanese partner Shuko Aoyama, the "Tiger-Fighting Duo," who achieved surprising results at the French Open, are seeded 13th in the women's doubles at Wimbledon this year. Today, they staged a comeback in the first round. After missing two set points in the first set, they lost it 5-7. However, the Taiwanese-Japanese pair found their rhythm from the second set onwards, winning 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the second round of the women's doubles.
As for the men's doubles, Taiwan's "Doubles Ace" Ho Chih-jen and his German partner Hendrik Jebens won their first-round match 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). Not only did they successfully pass the first hurdle, but Ho Chih-jen also "unlocked" a victory record in all four Grand Slam tournaments, becoming the first person to do so since Taiwanese star Lu Yen-hsun.
