(CNA, Taipei, July 2, 2024) Zhonglian's "Soybean Salad Oil" was found to exceed the standard for the carcinogen benzo(a)pyrene, affecting multiple businesses. Regent Taipei issued a statement today, clarifying that the affected batches of oil were only used in the staff cafeteria. Lao Xie Zhen stated that they have recalled one product, a rice burger, that used the implicated soybean oil.
Soybean salad oil produced by Zhonglian Oils was found to have excessive levels of the carcinogen benzo(a)pyrene. The Taichung City Department of Health and Food Safety announced today the downstream flow of oil products from Fwusow Industry and Formosa Oils & Fats, including 224 businesses such as star-rated hotels, chain coffee shops, and well-known food manufacturers. A total of 5,747 kilograms were recalled.
Regent Taipei issued a statement regarding the recent oil inspection anomaly that has drawn public attention. They completed a full inventory of oil products within the hotel immediately. The affected batches of oil involved in this incident were only used in the staff cafeteria. None of the oil batches were used in any of Regent Taipei's externally operating restaurants. All external dining services are currently operating normally and safely. Customers are assured.
Regent Taipei stated that the hotel has always procured oil from reputable and well-known domestic manufacturers. Partner suppliers must possess valid inspection certificates. They express deep regret over the inspection anomaly that occurred with the upstream supplier.
Regent Taipei emphasized that food safety is the hotel's utmost responsibility. They will continue to fully cooperate with subsequent investigations by regulatory authorities and relevant parties. They will implement stringent standards for the management of ingredient and raw material sources to safeguard the dietary safety and health of every customer and employee.
In addition, Lao Xie Zhen stated through a press release that they immediately initiated an internal inventory of raw materials and products. It was confirmed that the soybean oil item used in the news report was for the TOMMI White Sauce Cod Fillet Rice Burger. Other products were confirmed not to have used this batch of oil. Consumers are assured.
Lao Xie Zhen stated that to protect consumer rights and ensure safe consumption, they have proactively initiated a recall of shipments for this product in accordance with their self-management mechanism. The recalled quantity involves a total of 2,067 servings. Concurrently, the relevant oil products have been identified and their use has been stopped.
