(CNA, reporter Lin Xingjian, Manila, July 2) With a religious group demonstrating for days in the Philippines, the impeachment trial of the Vice President about to begin, and President Marcos Jr. abroad on a state visit, the military and police in the capital region are maintaining the highest alert to ensure domestic stability.

The Philippine military placed troops in the capital region on red alert on June 30 to ensure a high state of readiness, which has continued to this day.

The military statement said this is a standard precautionary procedure aimed at supporting civilian agencies, including the police, when necessary. The statement emphasized that the military will maintain a professional and politically neutral stance, committed to upholding the rule of law, respecting human rights, and fulfilling its constitutional duty to defend the nation.

On June 28, a civilian group and individual Catholic individuals launched an "anti-corruption demonstration" in front of the People Power Revolution Monument in Quezon City. Two days later, the religious group "Church of Christ" (INC) launched a surprise large-scale demonstration of thousands at the same location.

The People Power Revolution Monument is the site of the Philippines' two "People Power Revolutions" in 1986 and 2001 that overthrew governments. Large gatherings held here often carry strong political connotations.

The INC's demonstration has entered its third day. As they did not obtain a permit to demonstrate in Quezon City, the crowd moved today to Liwasang Bonifacio, near the Manila City Hall, to continue their protest. Liwasang Bonifacio is a "freedom park" where people can gather without applying for a permit.

The INC's demonstration is in solidarity with Senator and church member Rodante Marcoleta.

Marcoleta is considered an important ally of the Rodrigo Duterte camp. He was recently accused of plunder due to controversies surrounding his campaign expense declarations, and could face arrest if the court formally accepts the case.

Meanwhile, the Philippine police told the media today that the capital region is also under "full alert," meaning the police force must be on standby.

The INC's demonstration is occurring at a sensitive time in Philippine politics. Vice President Sara Duterte is facing an impeachment process in the Senate for alleged unconstitutional acts, corruption, and making statements threatening the President's safety.

The Philippine Senate is scheduled to begin the impeachment trial of Sara Duterte on the 6th. If convicted, Sara Duterte would be removed from her position as Vice President and permanently barred from holding public office.

Marcos Jr. departed today for Canada as scheduled. Amidst the deepening political rivalry between the Duterte family and the Marcos Jr. camp, the upcoming impeachment trial of Sara Duterte, and ongoing public demonstrations, the future political developments in the Philippines are drawing attention.
