Oklahoma Establishes Trade Office in Taiwan to Deepen US-Taiwan Trade and Investment

(CNA) - Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt recently announced the official establishment of the state's "Taiwan Regional Trade Office," demonstrating a strong US-Taiwan economic partnership. Hsiao Yi-fang, Director-General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston, stated that the trade office's establishment will be the starting point for continuously deepening bilateral investment and trade opportunities.

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston issued a press release yesterday stating that Stitt announced the establishment of the Oklahoma "Taiwan Regional Trade Office" at a celebration held on June 30 at the Oklahoma State Capitol Building, showcasing the rock-solid friendship and deep economic cooperation partnership between Taiwan and the US.

Hsiao Yi-fang, speaking at the event, expressed gratitude to Stitt for leading a trade delegation to Taiwan in 2024, which laid the foundation for opening the office, and thanked friends in the Oklahoma State Legislature for their legislative support.

The Oklahoma State Legislature passed a bill in 2025 to establish a regional trade office in Taiwan, which became law and took effect in August of the same year.

Hsiao Yi-fang pointed out that as global supply chains are being reshaped by geopolitical influences, the United States has become Taiwan's primary overseas investment destination, and Taiwan has also risen to become the US's fourth-largest trading partner.

Taiwan and the US signed a memorandum of understanding on investment cooperation in January, with Taiwan committing to expand its investment in the US. This includes US$250 billion in direct investment by Taiwanese enterprises and a second category of US$250 billion in corporate credit lines provided by financial institutions supported by Taiwan's government through credit guarantees.

Hsiao Yi-fang stated that Oklahoma's establishment of the "Taiwan Regional Trade Office" is not only a result of the deep friendship between Taiwan and Oklahoma but also the starting point for continuously deepening bilateral investment and trade opportunities.

She also mentioned that the US Department of State, Department of Agriculture, and Department of Commerce recently sent a joint letter to all state governors and business leaders across the US, encouraging further expansion of exchanges with Taiwan in trade, investment, and other areas.

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston indicated that the Oklahoma "Taiwan Regional Trade Office" will continue to promote bilateral trade and investment, highlighting Oklahoma's strengths in energy, defense, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing industries, as well as its logistical advantages due to its central US location. The office will also launch online courses to provide relevant information for the state's businesses looking to enter the Taiwanese market.

According to information provided by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston, the Oklahoma "Taiwan Regional Trade Office" will be located in Taipei, and its first representative in Taiwan will be Cathy Ho.
