(Central News Agency, Reporter Huang Hsu-sheng, New Taipei, July 2nd) Chung Lien Oil Company voluntarily reported that its soybean salad oil exceeded the standard for "benzo[a]pyrene (BaP)". The New Taipei City Government Health Bureau stated today that a special inspection was launched this morning to confirm whether the problematic product items and batch numbers have been effectively removed from shelves and recalled.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on the 1st that it had received a report from Chung Lien Oil Company, which provided a batch of soybean salad oil used by Taishan, Fwusow, and Formosa Oils & Fats. The company voluntarily detected that the carcinogenic benzo[a]pyrene content exceeded the standard, and initiated a recall.
Yang Shu-chin, head of the Food and Drug Administration Division of the New Taipei City Government Health Bureau, told CNA reporters via phone interview today, responding in writing, that the manufacturer of the product in this oil incident is located in Taichung City.
The Food and Drug Administration Division said that based on the currently announced product items and batch numbers requiring removal from shelves and recall, the Health Bureau has launched a special inspection. The inspection division strengthened its checks this morning at retail outlets such as stores and supermarkets to confirm the implementation of the relevant product recall by the channels, to ensure consumer food safety.
