(CNA, Taipei, July 2) The Taiwan Independence Party stated today that the "Law on the Promotion of Ethnic Unity and Progress," which officially took effect in China on July 1, poses immediate risks for Taiwanese traveling to China. China may fabricate charges and arbitrarily arrest Taiwanese at any time. Therefore, the party urges that all advertisements and necessary documents for travel to China should be marked with a "risk warning," similar to the health risk advisories on cigarette and alcohol packaging.

The Taiwan Independence Party issued a statement today, saying that China has long claimed Taiwan as part of China and has relentlessly suppressed and contained Taiwan internationally in an attempt to legitimize its claims through persistent assertion. Since the enactment of the Anti-Secession Law in 2005, China has further intended to exert cross-border pressure on Taiwanese through "long-arm jurisdiction," building a legal foundation for such actions.

The Taiwan Independence Party stated that the "Law on the Promotion of Ethnic Unity and Progress" defines "overseas" to encompass the entire globe, aiming to use the guise of "ethnic unity" to implement illegal long-arm jurisdiction. This is intended to create a chilling effect, followed by cross-border oppression as circumstances permit, including stalking, harassment, and illegal arrests. This tactic has precedents; China has illegally established 102 overseas police stations in 53 countries worldwide, long engaging in surveillance and harassment of overseas dissidents, with a history of misconduct.

The Taiwan Independence Party believes that in the face of China's legal warfare threats against Taiwan, the primary risk falls on Taiwanese traveling to China. China may fabricate charges and arbitrarily arrest Taiwanese at any time. Therefore, an immediate action is to require all advertisements and necessary documents for travel to China to be marked with a "risk warning," akin to the health risk advisories on cigarette and alcohol packaging. Simultaneously, it is recommended that citizens choose democratic and law-abiding countries with human rights protections when traveling abroad.

The Taiwan Independence Party stated that legal warfare is only one aspect of China's threats to Taiwan, and it is crucial to guard against China's ongoing infiltration and threat activities. This includes the institutionalized "all-expenses-paid" enticement of Taiwanese youth and village leaders under the "Three Youths and One Line" united front strategy, especially approaching the local elections at the end of 2026. Furthermore, since June of this year, Chinese coast guard vessels have been illegally "patrolling" in Taiwan's eastern waters, fabricating various excuses to harass merchant ships, and using such gray-zone tactics to find opportunities for "transitioning from peace to war" for aggression against Taiwan.

The Taiwan Independence Party asserts that Taiwan and China are one country on each side and are not subordinate to each other, a fact that is clear. However, Taiwan remains deeply mired in an outdated, erroneous, and absurd constitution and the "Act Governing Relations Between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area." This law, commonly known as the "Cross-Strait People's Relations Act," begins by stating its premise is "before the unification of the country...", which is a clear manifestation of self-delusion detached from reality and should be abolished as soon as possible.
