(CNA, Chiayi City, July 1) Chiayi Mayor Huang Min-hui announced today at an event celebrating the city's restoration as a provincial city that the free school lunch policy will be expanded to include students in private junior high schools, and a trial program will be launched to subsidize health insurance premiums for seniors over 80, to care for the elderly and reduce the burden on families.

The Chiayi City Government held the "Celebrating the 44th Anniversary of Chiayi City's Restoration as a Provincial City" event in the city hall courtyard today. Huang Min-hui led the city government team, along with Presidential Office Advisor Chang Po-ya, several councilors, and village chiefs, to review the history of the city's elevation. The smart city exhibition "Home City x Chiayi" was also moved back to Chiayi and will be exhibited in the first-floor lobby of the city hall from today until the 5th.

In her speech, Huang Min-hui announced that Chiayi City will promote two new policies: expanding the free school lunch program and subsidizing health insurance premiums for seniors over 80. These will be submitted to the Chiayi City Council for review tomorrow. The free school lunch policy will be extended to students in private junior high schools, ensuring that all public and private elementary and junior high school students in the city can enjoy free, healthy, and nutritious lunches.

Huang Min-hui pointed out that the city government will also pilot a health insurance premium subsidy for seniors over 80. Through more comprehensive welfare policies, the city aims to care for the elderly, reduce family burdens, and help seniors live with peace of mind and age healthily. Additionally, Chiayi City will extend the usage period for the "Good Pregnancy" taxi service from 3 months after childbirth to 6 months, hoping to protect the health of all ages through policy.

The Civil Affairs Bureau stated that the "Home City x Chiayi" smart city exhibition, which was held at the Nangang Exhibition Center in March, attracted nearly 10,000 visitors. This expanded event integrates 22 city government departments, plans 16 major exhibition themes and 30 smart governance achievements, and adds 11 new exhibition projects, fully showcasing Chiayi City's achievements in smart transportation, zero-carbon governance, smart tourism, and digital education.
