(CNA, Yunlin County, July 1) A fraud courier who provocatively filmed and boasted about his criminal activities last year had his parole revoked and was sentenced to 8 months in prison, with the possibility of appeal.

Last August, KMT legislator Hung Mong-kai questioned Premier Cho Jung-tai in the Legislative Yuan about a fraud courier who had high-profilely filmed himself explaining his criminal process. The Ministry of Justice investigated the case. The Xiluo Precinct of the Yunlin County Police summoned the suspect, surnamed Liao, and referred him to the prosecutor's office for inciting others to commit crimes. The prosecutor revoked his parole and indicted him. The first instance court recently ruled to impose a sentence of 8 months imprisonment, which can be appealed.

The prosecutor's request to revoke Liao's parole was approved. Liao reported to the execution division of the Yunlin District Prosecutor's Office on August 20 last year to serve the remaining sentence of 1 year, 11 months, and 10 days. Simultaneously, the prosecutor indicted him.

In the video, Liao stated, "Fraud crimes in mainland China are punished severely, even more so than in Taiwan. Taiwan is truly a paradise," and "The victim's financial loss in my hands was 3 million NTD, and he only helped you deduct 7,213 NTD." He uploaded the video to his Douyin account, making it accessible to the public and openly inciting others to engage in fraudulent activities.

The court considered that Liao had been previously sentenced and imprisoned for fraud but failed to learn his lesson. After being released on parole, he again incited others to commit fraud by filming videos, which is detrimental to the trend of fraudulent crimes and should not be treated lightly.

The court took into account Liao's prior fraud convictions and poor conduct. After being released on parole, he committed this offense, disregarding the leniency of parole and clearly treating national laws as meaningless. However, considering that Liao confessed to his crime and his post-offense attitude was acceptable, he was sentenced to 8 months imprisonment for inciting others to commit crimes. The case can be appealed. (Editor: Chang Ya-ching) 1150701
