County Councilor Shen Su-cheng to Run for Nantou Mayor, Hopes to Implement Development Policies

The county party headquarters' ad hoc executive committee today approved the nomination of county councilor Shen Su-cheng to run.

Shen Su-cheng said she has deep feelings for Nantou City and hopes to promote and implement development policies by changing her career path.

Nantou County has a population of over 467,000, with Nantou City, Caotun Township, Puli Township, and Zhushan Township accounting for over 319,000. Wu Chi-nan, chairman of the DPP Nantou County Chapter and county councilor, said today that the DPP Nantou County Chapter held an ad hoc executive committee meeting today and approved the nomination of DPP Nantou County Councilor Shen Su-cheng to run for Nantou Mayor, and former Jiji Township Mayor Chen Chi-heng to run for Jiji Township Mayor.

In an interview with CNA, Shen Su-cheng said she wants to do something for her hometown, which is why she chose Nantou City and Mingjian Township for her county councilor constituency. Especially Nantou City, where she was born and raised, she has special feelings for it. In the past few months, the party headquarters and the party chairman, President Lai Ching-te, have been discussing with her. Now that she has the opportunity to run for Nantou Mayor, she hopes to promote and implement relevant development policies for Nantou City.

Shen Su-cheng said that Nantou City is the administrative center of Nantou County. She has seen the prosperous appearance of Nantou City during her growth. However, after the Jiji earthquake, Nantou City has not seemed to have significant development and transformation. It has been more than 20 years now. "It seems like we've only watched others grow, and we haven't had a chance to move forward," she said. She felt it was a pity. After discussing with her family and local figures, she decided to take on this career change.

Chen Chi-heng said that after he stepped down, some confirmed construction projects or brand-building activities came to an abrupt end. He could only respect it but also felt regret. Some townspeople also miss the transparent governance of the past. Moreover, in the past few months, he has traveled throughout the county with Wen Shih-cheng, the DPP candidate for Nantou County Magistrate, and indeed believes that Wen Shih-cheng is a talented person. This reminded him of himself 12 years ago when he first entered politics as a layman, hoping to change Nantou.
