(London, July 1st, CNA, Reuters) French Open new women's singles champion, Russian tennis player Mirra Andreeva, was surprisingly eliminated in the second round of the Wimbledon women's singles today, unexpectedly losing to Czech player Barbora Krejcikova.

According to AFP, Andreeva, 19, won her first Grand Slam title in the French Open women's singles in June and is considered one of the rising stars in tennis at this Wimbledon, seeded fifth.

In contrast, although Krejcikova has also won French Open and Wimbledon women's singles titles, her world ranking has fallen to 38th after a period of injury-plagued lows. She was eliminated in the first round of both the Australian Open and French Open this year.

However, Krejcikova showed resilience on Wimbledon's Centre Court today, battling Andreeva for two hours and 47 minutes, ultimately staging a thrilling comeback with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory.

After advancing to the third round of the Wimbledon women's singles, Krejcikova will face a Czech derby in the next round against Nikola Bartunkova. (Compiled by: Chen Cheng-chien) 1150702
