Taipei, July 1 (CNA) The Central News Agency (CNA) held its 11th board of directors and supervisors appointment and chairman handover ceremony today. Under the supervision of Executive Yuan Minister Without Portfolio Ma Yung-cheng, Chiang Chun-nan took over as chairman. Subsequently, the first board meeting of his tenure was convened, during which Hu Wan-ling was approved to continue as president.

Ma Yung-cheng represented the Executive Yuan in presiding over the appointment ceremony. Minister of Culture Lee Yuan was also invited to attend and witness Chiang Chun-nan receive the seal of office from former CNA Chairman Lee Yong-te, officially assuming the position of chairman.

Ma Yung-cheng pointed out that CNA plays a crucial role in news dissemination and international communication systems. In recent years, it has continuously refined its journalistic professionalism, expanded international cooperation, and actively invested in digital audio-visual development, enhancing Taiwan's visibility and influence in the international media environment.

Ma Yung-cheng stated that the 11th board of directors and supervisors has officially taken office, undertaking an important and meaningful mission. Amidst the rapid changes in the global information dissemination environment, the rise of artificial intelligence technology, and the challenges of disinformation, the demand for professional journalism and credible information is more critical than ever. He expressed his hope that CNA will continue to leverage its expertise, deepen its digital transformation, broaden its international perspective, enable the world to know Taiwan better, and maintain closer ties between Taiwan and the world.

Newly appointed Chairman Chiang Chun-nan, a veteran journalist, said he has always felt fortunate to be a reporter, as there are always new things that make one forget time and age. He recalled how many senior figures in the journalism industry told him in his youth how enjoyable chasing news was, but acknowledged that in today's difficult media environment, becoming an operator presents a significant challenge.

Chiang Chun-nan stated that in the past, the media fought for press freedom, but today the challenge is different: it is an overflow of news, making trust, credibility, and truth more rare and important. It requires greater courage, knowledge, and an understanding of the pitfalls of the information world. CNA's role in this is particularly significant, and he feels fortunate and honored to return to the journalism field to work together.

Lee Yong-te thanked the 10th board of directors and supervisors team for their collaboration over the past three years. He noted that during every board meeting, members actively participated, engaging in numerous discussions regarding changes in the international and technological landscape and internal challenges. He believes these discussions, which occurred during CNA's centennial, will be beneficial for the next century.

Lee Yong-te added that, as Ma Yung-cheng indicated, CNA's future positioning will be oriented towards international engagement, and Chiang Chun-nan, as his senior in the journalism field, is highly suitable to lead the next board of directors and supervisors. Lee Yong-te emotionally remarked that today also marks his graduation from his professional career, bringing to a close over 20 years in public service. He plans to return to his rural life and family and wished CNA a bright future.

Following the appointment and handover ceremony, Chiang Chun-nan convened the first board meeting of the 11th term, during which Hu Wan-ling was approved to continue as CNA president.

Hu Wan-ling stated that while CNA's text and image news releases and international media citations continue to increase, audio-visual news has also grown significantly. However, to facilitate easier adoption by domestic and international operators, consideration should be given to building a professional-grade media library to accumulate and preserve materials.

Furthermore, Hu Wan-ling mentioned that increasing revenue streams and expanding CNA's influence are key future tasks. (Editor: Lung Po-an Lung-an) 1150701)
