(CNA) - The Ministry of Finance announced its latest list of major tax delinquents today, all of whom are repeat offenders. According to ministry data, among individuals, the family of the late stock market personality Huang Jen-chung owes over NT$3.2 billion in back taxes, continuing to hold the top spot.

To effectively prevent significant tax evasion and enhance tax collection, tax authorities legally announce finalized cases of individuals with accumulated tax arrears exceeding NT$10 million or businesses with accumulated tax arrears exceeding NT$50 million on July 1st each year.

The Ministry of Finance and its subordinate tax collection agencies announced major tax delinquency cases today as required. This year, a total of 826 cases nationwide were announced, amounting to approximately NT$78.083 billion. Compared to last year's announced data, the number of cases decreased by 42, and the amount decreased by NT$4.74 billion.

Examining this year's list of major tax delinquents, the top three individual cases remain unchanged. Huang Jen-chung continues to lead with a total of over NT$1.97483 billion in income tax and penalties. Second is the Huang Cheng-chih family of Kaohsiung, owing over NT$1.53275 billion in income tax and inheritance tax. Third is Huang Jen-chung's sister, Hsia Huang Hsin-ping, who owes NT$1.28555 billion in income tax.

Among the individual tax delinquents announced this time, there are no newcomers to the top 20 major tax delinquency list nationwide. However, the overall rankings have seen slight changes. For example, Yuan Hsiang Construction, which was ranked 10th last year, has seen its total tax arrears and penalties increase to NT$978.13 million due to unpaid corporate income tax, moving its ranking to 7th place this year.

As for corporate tax delinquents, they are also all familiar names, but the rankings have shifted slightly. The top corporate tax delinquent is Song Chu Palace Hotel, owing NT$1.17676 billion in corporate income tax and business tax, including penalties. Second is Red Top Restaurant, owing a total of NT$1.10520 billion in corporate income tax and business tax, including penalties. Third is Broadex Technologies, owing a total of NT$1.09313 billion in corporate income tax and business tax, including penalties.

The Ministry of Finance emphasized that clearing tax arrears is one of the key tasks for all tax collection agencies. In addition to using the announcement of major tax delinquency cases to urge delinquents to fulfill their tax obligations according to law, the ministry has established a cooperative mechanism with the Ministry of Justice. Tax collection agencies are also strengthening communication and coordination with the various branches of the Executive Agency for Revenue and Taxation under the Ministry of Justice, actively investigating assets of taxpayers that can be executed and submitting them to the executive agencies for action.

The Ministry of Finance explained that for taxpayers who have the ability to pay but intentionally conceal their assets, they will actively track their movements, provide relevant information on the delinquents to the executive agencies for reference, and cooperate with the executive agencies in apprehending and detaining tax delinquents.

The Ministry of Finance urges taxpayers with outstanding tax obligations to promptly contact the tax collection agency responsible for their case to discuss payment matters. If facing financial difficulties, they can apply to the executive agency for approval of installment payments. For those who pay on time, the tax collection agency will not announce their tax delinquency information. (Editor: Yang Kai-hsiang) 1150701
