(Washington, July 1, CNA, Reuters) U.S. President Donald Trump said today that Taiwan is doubling the size of a semiconductor plant under construction in Arizona, which will help increase America's chip market share to 50% before the end of his term.
Fox Business Network reported that Trump said before heading to Joint Base Andrews: "We are creating more jobs, and we have more people working now than at any time in the history of our country. This is a great thing, and it's happening before these places are even open."
Trump mentioned that these new semiconductor plants will open within the next year, and chip manufacturers from Taiwan, such as industry leader TSMC, are increasing their investment in the United States.
He also said: "The biggest company in the world, actually, is that chip company. And they are coming, and they are building in Arizona, and they just announced they are going to double the size. We may have 50% of the chip market by the time I leave office. Do you know how much we have now? Nothing."
TSMC declined to comment on this report. (Compiled by Chen Cheng-chien) 0702
