(Central News Agency Reporter Shen Pei-yao Taipei, July 1st) The Blood Foundation stated today that celebrity Xiaoxian recently posted a message calling for donations, saying that a senior's aunt and uncle were rushed to the hospital and she was worried about insufficient blood inventory, hoping that people with the rare A-type Rh-negative blood (panda blood) would donate. In fact, each blood donation center has a special blood product dispatch mechanism, so no patient will be without blood.
"Panda blood" is a popular online nickname used in China to describe Rh-negative blood. The Taiwan Blood Foundation stated in a press release today that the Taipei Blood Donation Center has already provided the Rh-negative blood required for this patient. Currently, the blood donation centers in Taipei, Hsinchu, Taichung, and Kaohsiung regularly store Rh-negative red blood cell products of A, B, O, and AB blood types.
The Taiwan Blood Foundation pointed out that if a hospital has a patient who needs this type of blood product, they can reserve it from the local blood donation center in advance, or assist in transferring blood between hospitals. If the blood bank inventory in that jurisdiction is insufficient, each blood donation center will also support each other for these special blood types.
"If an Rh-negative recipient does not have blood of the same blood type available, O-type Rh-negative red blood cells can also be transfused." The Taiwan Blood Foundation stated that each blood donation center has established supply operation guidelines. In emergencies, it will notify donors with special blood types to donate blood at the nearest blood donation room (vehicle), so that patients will not be without blood.
The Taiwan Blood Foundation stated that some individuals posting messages to invite Rh-negative donors to donate blood may lead the public to mistakenly believe that blood donation institutions do not have a dispatch mechanism, and may also cause unnecessary panic. In fact, Taiwan has been promoting voluntary blood donation for over 50 years, and the blood donation and supply system is mature and stable, sufficient to supply medical blood without worry. The relevant "Special Blood Product Supply Operation Guidelines" are considered a world benchmark, and the public can rest assured.
The Taiwan Blood Foundation calls for "donate a bag of blood, save a life." It urges regular donors to donate blood enthusiastically and periodically, and welcomes Rh-negative donors to be on call anytime to "return home" to ensure that various precious blood types can be used at critical moments.
