(CNA reporter Yeh Su-ping, Taipei, July 1st) President Lai Ching-te, who also serves as the chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), said today that the current blood supply across Taiwan is below the safe inventory level, and medical blood usage is facing considerable pressure. He called on the public to donate blood to help patients in need, and also asked DPP officials and members to join hands with civil society groups to organize blood donation events and assist local blood centers in overcoming the summer off-season for blood collection.

The DPP held its Central Executive Committee meeting today, during which Lai Ching-te mentioned that July marks the beginning of summer, a period prone to typhoons and heavy rainfall. During this time each year, not only does the public's willingness to donate blood decrease, but many outdoor blood donation events are often canceled due to weather conditions, making summer a perennial period of blood shortage.

He stated that last week, for example, due to continuous heavy rains, some blood donation stations in various locations had to temporarily suspend services, and many scheduled street-side blood donation events were also canceled at the last minute, leading to a significant drop in the overall blood inventory in Taiwan. Currently, the blood supply across Taiwan is below the safe inventory level, and medical blood usage is facing considerable pressure.

Lai Ching-te expressed that if the public's health condition permits, they are encouraged to visit local blood donation stations, blood donation rooms, or blood donation vehicles to donate blood and help patients in need. At the same time, he requested local party branches and all party officials and members to join hands with civil society groups to organize blood donation events, calling on more people to participate in public blood donation efforts and assist local blood centers in overcoming the summer off-season for blood collection.
