National Freeway No. 1 Wugu-Yangmei Overpass Section: 3-Car Pile-up, 1 Driver Hospitalized, Cause Under Investigation

(Central News Agency, reporter Wu Ruiqi, Taoyuan, July 1) A three-car collision occurred this morning on the northbound lanes of the National Freeway No. 1 Wugu-Yangmei Overpass section at kilometer 54.3 in the Luzhu District of Taoyuan City. Traffic backed up, and one driver was sent to the hospital due to dizziness. The accident was cleared and traffic resumed at 8:41 AM. The detailed cause of the accident is still under police investigation.

The Freeway Police Bureau issued a press release stating that after receiving the report around 7:32 AM, the command center immediately dispatched patrol cars to handle the situation and notified the traffic control center, as well as fire and ambulance personnel. Preliminary investigations indicate that a Mr. Chen (49 years old), driving a passenger car in the innermost lane, allegedly due to distracted driving, collided with a passenger car driven by a Ms. Chen (43 years old) and another passenger car driven by a Mr. Wang (66 years old), resulting in a three-car accident.

Police stated that Ms. Chen, the driver of the second car, experienced dizziness and was taken to the hospital by ambulance for examination. The blood alcohol content of all three drivers was zero. The accident scene was cleared at 8:41 AM, and normal traffic flow resumed. The responsibility for the accident is still under further clarification.

Freeway police urge drivers to obey traffic rules, maintain a safe following distance, be well-rested before driving, and avoid distracted or fatigued driving. When encountering traffic congestion, drivers should turn on their hazard lights to warn vehicles behind them and ensure they are wearing seatbelts to reduce injuries from accidents.
