Chiang Wei-shui Classical Poetry Recitation Contest Deadline Extended to July 17

(CNA Taipei, June 30) The Chiang Wei-shui Cultural Foundation and the Taipei City Xinmin Association are holding the "2026 Chiang Wei-shui Taiwanese Hokkien & Hakka Youth Classical Poetry Recitation Contest." The submission deadline has been extended from July 3 to July 17. High school and university students are welcome to submit their entries. The first prize includes a scholarship of NT$80,000.

According to a press release from the Xinmin Association, the deadline was extended to accommodate students who are preparing for final exams and may not have had time to record their competition videos. Students are encouraged to seize this opportunity to submit their entries.

Regarding eligibility, the high school division is open to students who are citizens of this country and are currently enrolled in public or private senior high schools, vocational high schools, or the first to third years of junior colleges accredited by the Ministry of Education during the period from the acceptance of entries to the award ceremony (May 25, 2026, to September 5, 2026). This includes students graduating from junior high to senior high/vocational high/junior college, and students graduating from senior high to university.

The university division is open to students who are citizens of this country and are currently enrolled in public or private universities (including undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs) or the fourth to fifth years of junior colleges accredited by the Ministry of Education during the period from the acceptance of entries to the award ceremony (May 25, 2026, to September 5, 2026).

For the competition rules, the initial screening will be conducted online. Registration is considered complete only upon submission of the entry. Participants must select one piece from the designated repertoire and one from their own selection. Each piece should be recited or sung in Taiwanese Hokkien or Hakka once, with the designated piece first, followed by the self-selected piece. Detailed repertoire and competition rules can be found on the Xinmin Association's official website.

Scholarships will be awarded based on merit. For the high school division, the first prize includes one trophy and an NT$80,000 scholarship; the second prize includes one trophy and a NT$50,000 scholarship; the third prize includes one trophy and a NT$30,000 scholarship; and seven honorable mentions will receive a certificate and a NT$5,000 scholarship.
