(CNA reporter Huang Chao-wen, Taipei, June 30) On June 28, the Taiwan Railways Administration's (TRA) Tzu-Chiang Limited Express No. 161 experienced a mechanical failure, causing delays. However, a passenger verbally abused the train conductor with profanity. The TRA stated today that it will refer the case to the police for a fine according to their authority. The company also has a system in place to assist employees involved in litigation due to their duties, and will provide legal assistance.

The state-owned Taiwan Railways Administration posted on social media, stating that it once again strongly condemns any verbal violence against frontline personnel. Facing sudden and unwarranted accusations, the company understands the immense physical and mental stress employees endure and feels saddened and distressed.

The TRA said that to defend employee dignity, it immediately preserved relevant evidence. This morning, the direct supervisor once again visited and comforted the involved conductor, clearly assuring them that the company's internal legal team is on standby. Considering that subsequent legal proceedings require respecting the wishes of the parties involved, and respecting the employee's pace and decisions, the company will provide assistance whenever needed, ensuring the employee does not face the proceedings alone.

The TRA stated that it will not tolerate any behavior that infringes upon frontline personnel and will continue to provide full support, provided it respects the employee's wishes.

Regarding netizens' calls to press charges, the TRA said that protecting the rights of frontline employees is the company's responsibility. However, public insult is a crime that requires a complaint to be prosecuted. Whether to press charges is the right of the individual. To protect employee rights, the company has prepared a system for assisting employees involved in litigation due to their duties, including legal fees and employee leave arrangements. This care mechanism has been activated, and legal and various other forms of assistance will be provided according to regulations to ensure company partners receive the fullest support and companionship.

The TRA stated that after reconfirmation by the company's internal legal department, the passenger's behavior has violated the Social Order Maintenance Act and the Railway Act. To rectify passenger conduct, defend the employee's work environment, and protect the safety of public transportation, the case will be referred to the police, urging them to impose a fine within their authority.
