(CNA, Pingtung County, June 30) - The Pingtung County Government plans to subsidize health insurance premiums for seniors starting January next year. To support the economically disadvantaged, it announced that the program will first be implemented for low-to-middle income individuals in July this year, using an automatic matching mechanism. Eligible individuals will not need to apply, as the county government will handle the process directly.

The Pingtung County Government stated in a press release today that starting January 1, 2027, health insurance premium subsidies for all seniors in the county will be officially launched. Eligible individuals must be registered residents of Pingtung County for over 1 year, be 65 years or older (or indigenous people 55 years or older), and have a tax rate of 5% on their most recent year's consolidated income tax, or a total consolidated income below the filing threshold, as determined by the tax authority. Each person will receive a maximum monthly subsidy of NT$826, equivalent to the self-paid amount for Category 6 local residents under the National Health Insurance.

The County Government's Social Affairs Department explained that to precisely and preferentially support the economically disadvantaged, the "Health Insurance Premium Subsidy for Low-to-Middle Income Seniors Aged 65 to 69" will be prioritized starting this July. Eligible individuals who are registered residents of Pingtung, aged 65 to under 70, and receive living allowances for low-to-middle income seniors will receive a maximum monthly subsidy of NT$826.

The Social Affairs Department emphasized that all subsidies will utilize an automatic matching mechanism. Eligible individuals will not need to apply, and the county government will directly process the subsidy, saving seniors the trouble of traveling.

The Social Affairs Department added that the county has continuously promoted various elder welfare initiatives in recent years, from the establishment of community care centers to various living allowances and subsidies, all demonstrating practical actions to protect local residents.
