(CNA Taipei, June 30) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Bureau of Consular Affairs announced today that starting at 10 AM on July 1, the "Conditional Online Passport Application and Renewal" service will be expanded to include individuals whose passports have less than one year of validity remaining. Additionally, the MOFA's "Online Document Authentication Form System" will officially launch tomorrow, saving time spent filling out forms in person.

During a regular press conference this morning, Director-General of the MOFA Bureau of Consular Affairs, Zheng Zhengyong, stated in his business briefing that to facilitate the public's use of the "Conditional Online Passport Application and Renewal" service, the eligibility criteria will be further expanded starting at 10 AM on July 1. This expansion will extend the service to applicants whose passports have less than one year of validity remaining, up from the previous limit of less than six months.

Zheng Zhengyong explained that as long as applicants meet three conditions: they are adults with household registration in Taiwan, their current passport has expired or has less than one year of validity remaining and has not been lost (previously less than six months), and the information on their passport's data page has not changed, they can use their Citizen Digital Certificate to apply for a new passport through the MOFA Bureau of Consular Affairs' "Conditional Online Passport Application and Renewal System" (https://epass.boca.gov.tw/Default.html) starting at 10 AM on July 1.

Zheng Zhengyong stated that after completing payment, applicants can, within 10 working days, bring their receipt, original national ID card, and their current passport with less than one year of validity remaining (passports that have already expired do not need to be brought) to their chosen Bureau of Consular Affairs office or the MOFA's Central, Southern, Eastern, or Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan branch offices to collect their new passport.

Furthermore, Zheng Zhengyong announced that the MOFA Bureau of Consular Affairs and its Central, Southern, Eastern, and Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan branch offices will simultaneously launch the "Online Document Authentication Form System" starting July 1. Citizens can quickly complete their forms by scanning a QR Code with their mobile phone or by accessing the online service URL. They can also find practical information such as details on various document authentication services, application regulations, and required documents.

Zheng Zhengyong pointed out that to save citizens time filling out document authentication application forms at the counter, the MOFA encourages the public to make full use of the "Online Document Authentication Form System." The MOFA will continue to uphold the spirit of simplifying procedures and benefiting the public by continuously optimizing the digitalization of document authentication processes and enhancing the quality of services provided to citizens.
