(CNA, reporter Chang Jung-hsiang, Tainan, June 30) The Tainan District Prosecutors Office confirmed this evening that Tainan investigators searched the residences of former Tainan City Council Speaker and current Tainan City Councilor Kuo Hsin-liang, and have taken Kuo Hsin-liang and others in for questioning.

Kuo Hsin-liang, an independent, is involved in a municipal land readjustment case and is accused of accepting bribes totaling NT$13 million. The Tainan District Court sentenced him to 13 years in prison in November 2024. The case was appealed to the second instance, and the Taiwan High Court Tainan Branch Court overturned the verdict and acquitted him in October last year. The Tainan High Prosecutors Office then appealed to the Supreme Court.

In addition, Kuo Hsin-liang is involved in a solar power development case. He was indicted by the Qiaotou District Prosecutors Office on charges of corruption and other offenses. Furthermore, it was discovered that he allegedly provided land for a construction company to dump approximately 49,000 cubic meters of construction waste. The Qiaotou District Prosecutors Office filed an additional indictment in December last year for violating the Waste Disposal Act, seeking a sentence of 3 years and 6 months.
