Taiwanese Voyager's Hard Drives Stolen in London; Representative Office Providing Assistance

(CNA London, June 30) -- Taiwanese young sailing adventurer Chen Huai-pu recently completed a remarkable feat of sailing across the Antarctic and South Atlantic oceans. However, upon returning to London and staying at a hotel, two hard drives storing his expedition footage were stolen. The Taipei Representative Office in the UK stated today that it continues to provide him with necessary assistance and contact.

The Taipei Representative Office in the UK told CNA that Chen Huai-pu visited the office on the afternoon of June 25. The office immediately began to understand his situation and guided him to report the incident to the London police as soon as possible. Chen Huai-pu completed the police report on the evening of June 25, and the police confirmed acceptance of the case on the morning of June 26.

After Chen Huai-pu completed his report to the police, the legal secretary of the Taipei Representative Office in the UK immediately contacted the Metropolitan Police to express the office's concern and urged the police to take the case seriously and handle it proactively.

The office also sent personnel to the youth hostel where Chen Huai-pu was staying on June 26 to express the government's concern for him. In addition, the office assisted Chen Huai-pu in moving out of his original youth hostel and into a church arranged by his friends. Chen Huai-pu is scheduled to fly back to Taiwan on July 2.

The Taipei Representative Office in the UK stated that it will continue to maintain close contact with Chen Huai-pu and provide necessary assistance.

After contacting the office and completing his police report on June 25, Chen Huai-pu posted a video online on June 26 describing his traumatic experience and requesting assistance from all parties, hoping to recover the two hard drives containing his complete expedition footage.
