The Hualien Branch of the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency issued a yellow alert for the Wanli Creek barrier lake today, estimating current water storage at 40% to 60% of total capacity. Preventive evacuation procedures are underway for 183 residents across 7 villages in Wanrong Township and Fenglin Township.
According to the agency, the decision follows continuous rainfall and meteorological forecasts predicting an additional 58 millimeters of rain over the next 48 hours. The yellow alert, issued at 7:25 AM, indicates a potential overflow within 48 hours. Local governments have confirmed that 69 households involving 183 people are affected.
Due to heavy cloud cover, aerial drone monitoring is currently suspended. Officials are relying on rainfall data to estimate capacity. Monitoring will resume as soon as weather conditions permit to ensure the stability of the dam and the safety of downstream residents.
