Central News Agency (CNA), Taipei, June 27 – Due to the outer circulation of typhoons and southwesterly winds, continuous heavy rainfall across Taiwan has caused widespread damage. The Taipei Insurance Association of the Republic of China (the Association) stated that policyholders who have suffered property damage due to typhoons or flooding may file claims with their insurers under the terms of the "Typhoon and Flood Compensation" clause.
The Association noted that with intensifying climate change and frequent extreme weather events, individuals should prioritize safety and disaster prevention while ensuring their insurance coverage is adequate. Reviewing insurance policies can help mitigate future economic pressure and inconvenience.
Since April 1, 2020, the basic residential fire insurance and policy-based earthquake insurance have included "Residential Typhoon and Flood Damage Compensation Insurance" in their standard coverage. Policyholders are encouraged to verify whether their policies, including residential fire insurance riders or automotive typhoon damage clauses, cover these specific risks.
The claim process typically involves reporting the incident, providing photographic evidence, and undergoing damage assessment. Policyholders can use the "Policy Passbook System" maintained by the Taiwan Insurance Institute to verify their active insurance records and coverage details.
