The "2026 Taiwan Indigenous Tourism Carnival" opened today at the main lobby of Taipei Main Station. Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim delivered remarks in both Mandarin and English, expressing her hope that the international community would come to understand Taiwan’s diverse culture and rich heritage starting from its indigenous tribes.

Organized by the Tourism Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, in collaboration with six other government agencies, the event has been held for 13 consecutive years. This year’s theme, "Origin Travel," recreates indigenous dining experiences within the station. Guests, including Karin M. Lang, Deputy Director of the American Institute in Taiwan, attended the opening ceremony.

Vice President Hsiao emphasized that respect for diversity is a shared story among the Taiwanese people. With 16 recognized indigenous groups, each possessing unique traditions, religions, and languages, she noted that every tribal story deserves global recognition. She highlighted that beyond technological prowess, Taiwan’s core value lies in its warmth and hospitality, which visitors can experience firsthand in these communities.

Furthermore, the Vice President encouraged the public to support indigenous industries through tourism, helping to provide economic opportunities for local youth to remain in their ancestral lands. The carnival, running until June 28, features 30 events including traditional performances, marketplaces, and culinary demonstrations from seven national scenic areas.
