According to CNN, a small aircraft collided with the 108-story CITIC Tower (also known as 'China Zun') in Beijing this afternoon. Videos circulating online show the wreckage of a small plane broken apart on the street.
CNN reported that social media footage captured debris falling from the building at the time of the incident. Remains of the aircraft's tail were visible on the ground, alongside a taxi with a shattered window. Reporters on the scene observed crowds evacuating the building and gathering on nearby streets, with fire trucks, police vehicles, and an ambulance responding.
Online footage identifies the aircraft as an Aurora SA60L, a domestically produced light sport aircraft owned by a local general aviation company. Preliminary, unverified data from Flightradar24 suggests the aircraft deviated significantly from its flight path.
CNN has reached out to relevant Chinese authorities for comments. Beijing recently implemented new regulations effective May 1, requiring permits for all outdoor flight activities.
