Following significant rainfall in the mountainous regions of southern Taiwan, Nanhua Reservoir reached full capacity last night and began natural overflow. Management authorities have activated the desilting tunnel to facilitate hydraulic flushing. Meanwhile, Zengwen Reservoir, the nation’s largest in terms of capacity, has seen its storage rate return to 50.97%.

According to the Southern Region Water Resources Branch, the catchment area of Nanhua Reservoir recorded 117mm of rain yesterday and an additional 99mm by 5:00 PM today. The influx has been substantial. In addition to the natural overflow estimated at 65 cubic meters per second, the reservoir has opened its desilting tunnel, discharging approximately 100 cubic meters per second to regulate water levels and perform silt removal. Authorities have issued a safety advisory for downstream residents to keep away from riverbanks.

Regarding the Zengwen Reservoir, which has a capacity of 450 million cubic meters, consistent rainfall—101mm yesterday and 87mm today—has raised its total storage to 229.37 million cubic meters (50.97%). The connected Wushantou Reservoir currently reports a storage rate of 72.31%. With the second phase of irrigation for the Chianan region approaching, the water authority indicates that while water supply remains stable, continued water conservation is encouraged.
