Taipower held its 2026 general shareholders' meeting today. During the session, minority shareholders pointed out that nuclear energy is considered a highly reliable power source and suggested that Taipower invite prominent technology leaders to visit the Lungmen Nuclear Power Plant (N4). Taipower Chairman Tseng Wen-sheng stated that the company has been in contact with NVIDIA and maintains a flexible stance; should CEO Jensen Huang wish to visit the facility, Taipower is prepared to make the necessary arrangements.
Shareholders highlighted that industry figures, such as Pegatron Chairman Tung Tzu-hsien and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, have recently emphasized the importance of nuclear energy in light of the surging electricity demands from AI computing centers. Addressing these concerns, Chairman Tseng reiterated that Taipower is open to requests from industry leaders to visit its power plants.
Following the meeting, Tseng noted that Taipower is communicating with NVIDIA, which recognizes that energy is the fundamental basis for AI development. He added that the company will continue this dialogue, offer its 2026 power supply and demand report for reference, and facilitate a visit should Mr. Huang express interest.
Regarding the status of the Lungmen plant, Taipower explained that transition plans are currently under internal evaluation with no concrete proposal finalized. The plant is currently maintained under an asset management framework aimed at minimizing losses. Taipower emphasized that it cannot unilaterally decide the fate of the plant; any advancement to the next stage—such as decommissioning—requires a formal directive from superior government agencies and subsequent legislative oversight.
Chairman Tseng further clarified that while suggestions regarding the land use of the plant have been submitted to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, no official transition plan has been presented due to complex regulatory requirements. Regarding shareholder calls for the buyback of private shares, Tseng stated that due to Taipower's accumulated losses, further communication is required to determine an appropriate valuation.
