Taipei, June 26 (CNA) — Heavy rainfall beginning yesterday has caused significant agricultural damage across Taiwan. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, as of 5:00 p.m. today, total losses have reached NT$31.31 million. Papaya crops sustained the most significant damage, with Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, and Taoyuan City reporting the highest losses.

The Ministry of Agriculture, aggregating data from the Agriculture and Food Agency, Fisheries Agency, and the Department of Animal Industry, reported that total agricultural production and facility losses reached NT$31.31 million by this afternoon.

Crop losses are estimated at NT$20.48 million, affecting 314 hectares. Papayas were the primary crop impacted, with 57 hectares damaged, resulting in losses of NT$6.13 million. Other affected crops include chives, forage grass, pumpkins, gourds, and eggplants.

By region, Kaohsiung City reported losses of NT$14.78 million, followed by Pingtung County at NT$9.43 million and Taoyuan City at NT$6.16 million.

Livestock losses are estimated at NT$5.07 million, primarily affecting chickens, followed by ducks, pigs, and geese. Fishery losses total NT$5.74 million, largely due to damage to freshwater prawns, sea bass, and tilapia. Private infrastructure losses remain low at NT$10,000, mainly due to farmland erosion in New Taipei City. The Ministry continues to monitor and update disaster reports.
