The Central Weather Administration (CWA) announced on June 26 that a combination of a frontal system and southwesterly winds has resulted in extreme heavy rainfall in Kaohsiung City and Pingtung County. Significant heavy rainfall has also been recorded in Tainan City, the Hengchun Peninsula, and mountainous areas of New Taipei City. Rainfall is expected to persist in Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung from this evening through tomorrow, with potential for localized heavy or extremely heavy rain.
The CWA further indicated that localized heavy rain is likely in areas from Chiayi northward, as well as in Yilan County, Taitung County, Penghu County, and the mountainous regions of Hualien County. Residents are urged to remain vigilant against lightning and strong gusts. Low-lying areas should prepare for potential flooding, while those in mountainous regions must remain alert for landslides, falling rocks, mudslides, and sudden surges in creek water levels.
