SEOUL (CNA) — The Seoul Central District Court sentenced former First Lady Kim Keon-hee to seven years in prison on the 26th for charges involving the acceptance of luxury gifts in exchange for influencing official appointments and business interests.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the court issued the verdict against the wife of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, following her indictment on charges of influence-peddling and bribery.
Special Prosecutor Min Joong-ki, who led the investigative team, had previously requested a seven-and-a-half-year prison term. During the proceedings, prosecutors highlighted that the former First Lady repeatedly leveraged her position as the spouse of the President to facilitate private transactions.
