Taoyuan Mayor Chang San-cheng announced today that the Environmental Protection Bureau has officially issued the "Control Measures for Mobile Pollution Sources in the Taoyuan Technology Industrial Park Air Quality Protection Zone." The regulations will take effect on January 1, 2027, targeting diesel buses, trucks, and construction equipment to mitigate environmental impact.
Mayor Chang noted that the new system manages two primary categories of mobile pollution sources. Diesel vehicles manufactured before September 30, 2006, must pass exhaust emission tests or obtain a voluntary management label before entering the zone. Furthermore, diesel-powered construction machinery, such as forklifts and cranes, must also be certified and labeled to operate within the park.
Highlighting the scope of the policy, Mayor Chang stated that including construction machinery is a key feature, as these machines are significant sources of diesel exhaust and PM2.5 emissions. By controlling these sources, the city aims to improve air quality in the industrial park and surrounding areas.
Additionally, the city government views this as a proactive public health measure, complementing ongoing low-dose lung cancer screening programs. By combining source-level pollution control with healthcare initiatives, the administration seeks to provide more comprehensive health protection for its citizens.
