KAOHSIUNG, June 24 (CNA) — The Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office held a public memorial service today for senior prosecutor Chen Chun-hsiu, who passed away on June 15 following a sudden health emergency. Minister of Justice Cheng Ming-chien honored Chen as an exemplary prosecutor known for his professionalism and steady performance.

Chen had served the judiciary for over 30 years, including as a chief prosecutor, with extensive experience in investigation, public prosecution, and enforcement. Notably, he was recognized for his role in negotiating during the 2015 Kaohsiung prison hostage crisis, where he helped manage the 10-hour standoff.

Minister Cheng, who had previously worked with Chen at the Tainan District Prosecutors Office, praised his deep sense of responsibility and legal expertise. Representing the Ministry at the memorial, Deputy Minister of Justice Huang Mou-hsin and Department of Prosecutorial Affairs Director Chang Hsiao-wen attended the service to pay their respects.

Acting Prosecutor-General Hsu Hsi-hsiang also attended, emphasizing the need for judicial staff to prioritize their well-being. He stated that the authorities will focus on improving work environments to help staff balance health and professional responsibilities.

Throughout his career, Chen handled numerous high-profile cases, including multi-million dollar investment frauds and public threat cases, leaving a lasting legacy in the Taiwanese legal community.
