On June 24, New Taipei District Prosecutors Office announced the indictment of a man in his 50s for the sexual assault and death of his mother. The incident occurred in March of last year, when the suspect allegedly administered sedatives to his mother, who was in her 70s. Prosecutors state that the suspect sexually assaulted his mother while she was in a state of diminished consciousness, ultimately causing her death due to sedative toxicity and brain damage.

According to investigation reports, authorities were alerted on the morning of March 8 last year after the victim was found unresponsive in the hallway of their home. The suspect initially claimed to have discovered his mother on the floor after hearing noises in the early morning hours. However, emergency responders confirmed the woman was deceased upon arrival.

Subsequent forensic examinations indicated signs of sexual assault prior to death. In February of this year, police detained the suspect, who has since undergone psychiatric evaluation and remains in custody. Prosecutors have charged the suspect with aggravated sexual assault resulting in death. As this crime carries a minimum sentence of 10 years imprisonment, the case will be heard under the Citizen Judges Act.
