Central News Agency (CNA) reported on the 24th that KMT Kaohsiung City Councilor Huang Shao-ting has received a final verdict of a two-year prison sentence, three years of suspended civil rights, and five years of probation for a fraud case involving legislative assistant fees. The Kaohsiung City Council stated that the Executive Yuan will formalize his removal from office based on the court ruling. Due to the suspension of his political rights, Huang is ineligible to run for public office, effectively barring him from the year-end city council election.
Regarding the verdict, Huang indicated he would consult with his legal team upon receiving the official documentation. The Kaohsiung City Council Secretary-General, Huang Chin-ping, confirmed that the Executive Yuan’s removal order will be effective retroactively from the date of the Supreme Court's final judgment. The KMT Kaohsiung City Chapter expressed its respect for the judicial decision, noting that the party's disciplinary committee will handle the matter in accordance with internal regulations.
Court records indicate that between 2014 and his current term, Huang embezzled over NT$14.55 million in assistant subsidies by filing for phantom employees and falsifying salary reports. The Supreme Court dismissed his appeal, finalizing the two-year sentence, three-year deprivation of political rights, five-year probation, 240 hours of community service, a NT$2 million payment to the public treasury, and a requirement to attend seven legal education sessions.
